Glossary term
Active surface
A textile membrane surface that carries distributed electrical, sensing or protective function across its entire area — not just at discrete points.
Definition
Active surfaces replace the wired harness model of connected apparel with a full-coverage conductive film.
Penanos defines two Active Surface modes: humidity/moisture management (Active Surface) and microstatic anti-viral pulse (Active Surface Pulse).
Why it matters to DSEAMS
Active Surface is the defining concept of Penanos PE e-Mem — the thing that makes whole-garment electrification practical without wiring.

- Conductive adhesiveAn adhesive loaded with conductive particles that bonds components while carrying electrical signal or power between them.
- Microcurrent garmentA garment that uses distributed low-intensity electrical current across its surface to deliver function — humidity management, microstatic pulse, or heating.
